An Introduction to Mini Black Holes at LHC
نویسندگان
چکیده
Since the discovery of the Schwarzschild solution [1], black holes have fired mans imagination. Even more since it has been pointed out that, according to the theories with large extra dimensions (LXDs) [2] black holes (BHs) might even be produced at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC)[3]. We review possible observables of this conjecture with special emphasis on the unclear final fate of such a BH and the possible existence of black hole remnants (BHR) [4–15]. When doing this, we will rely on the numerous estimates of the black hole production cross section, which agree at the level of their order of magnitude [16].

Extra dimensions and micro black holes at the LHC
We present recent studies of the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations on the potential to discover extra dimensions and microscopic black holes in the forthcoming 2009-10 LHC run. We show that there is a good chance that with an integrated luminosity of ∼ 100 pb −1 accumulated at a center-of-mass energy of 10 TeV the searches for such new physics will be extended beyond the existing limits. Extra dimen...
متن کاملDifferentiating Unparticles from Extra Dimensions Via Mini Black Hole Thermodynamics
A thermodynamics-based method is presented for differentiating mini black hole creation mechanisms in high energy parton collisions, including scenarios with large compactified extra dimensions and unparticle-enhanced gravity with real scaling dimension dU . Tensor unparticle interactions are shown to mimic the physics of (2dU − 2) non-integer extra spatial dimensions. This yields unique model-...
متن کاملComparison of cosmic ray flux at √ s ≥ 14 TeV with LHC luminosity
The high energy cosmic ray flux impinging on the sun and earth for 4 Gyr is compared to the operation of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at design energy and luminosity. It is shown by two different calculations that both the integrated luminosity and the total hadronic interaction rate from the cosmic ray flux of comparable energy are many orders of magnitude larger than that of the LHC o...
متن کاملQuantum Gravity Effects in Black Holes at the LHC
We study possible back-reaction and quantum gravity effects in the evaporation of black holes which could be produced at the LHC through a modification of the Hawking emission. The corrections are phenomenologically taken into account by employing a modified relation between the black hole mass and temperature. The usual assumption that black holes explode around 1TeV is also released, and the ...
متن کاملStudy of highly-excited string states at the Large Hadron Collider
In TeV-scale gravity scenarios with large extra dimensions, black holes may be produced at future colliders. Good arguments have been made for why general relativistic black holes may be just out of reach of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). However, in weaklycoupled string theory, highly excited string states – string balls – could be produced at the LHC with high rates and decay thermally, not...
